After receiving an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Harvard University, Dr.
Knighton worked for a year as a volunteer teacher for elementary school students in Massachusetts. She then went on to obtain her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. With the exception of one year in a cat/dog practice, Dr. Knighton has been working exclusively with cats since graduation. On her days off, Dr. Knighton enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons and taking ballet classes.
Dr. Knighton currently has two cats, including her cat Scribbles, about whom Dr. Knighton has published an article in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association describing a previously unrecognized genetic disorder that makes him part-male and part-female.
